Web project management best practice guide on e-consultancy
Web project management best practice is a report published by e-consultancy which looks at the process of web project management and how it is implemented in a cross section of UK online businesses and agencies.
The report has some detailed findings and as with any report e-consultancy produce its well written and well researched.
Here’s a summary of the main points I took away from the report, a lot of which are clarification of what I assumed happens in many web projects:
- Involve the client/ sponsor in all stages of the project- that way they share responsibility for its successful delivery
- Planning is essential but if the plans too rigid it can hinder progress- web project management should create “the right environment” for web projects to succeed
- Make sure everyone involved in the project at any stage are well briefed not only on their own roles and objectives but on the objectives of the project as a whole
- Teams with more evolved project management techniques are more profitable in delivery of web projects (no surprises there)
- The most successful web projects involve the user at the prototyping/ solution design stage but under 50% of companies do this. “The earlier you get this feedback the less rework there will be”
If you’re involved with any sort of web project I would strongly recommend downloading the free version of the report or subscribing to e-consultancy for the full version.
