A few quick SEO tips for wordpress bloggers which you may not of come across or though about…
- Go international- install the translator plugin pro for Wordress- this will translate all your posts into 13 languages and in doing so exposing your blog to 13 new regional Google engines (+ many, many more worldwide). The translations may not be perfect but all your keywords will remain intact.
- Look to the clouds- the tag cloud you see on this blog and many like it isn’t just a pretty feature- it has real SEO benefits. Each keyword in the cloud can be followed by the engines to a canned search results page.The search engines see more pages, more content and are more likely to index the deep linked old posts in your archive. Get the weighted words tag cloud used on vanilla Digital.
- Blog about…your blog- Distribute your best blog posts on Digg then set up a sibling blog on wordpress.com or blogger. use Digg’s ‘blog it’ feature to fill the new blog with useful links to your main blog. A little devious prehaps but blogs are meant to be distribution platforms so why not use them to full SEO advantage
- Topical discussion- Add a topic list to your sidebar (like the one on the right of vanilla) and give all your topics keyword rich names. Add posts to more than one topic if neccesary. The extra topics will be seen as menu items and earn you SEO points for anchor text and internal linking
- Be stable- Blogs are great for SEO because of their dynamic content but as the homepage is always changing a few off topic posts can leave the search engines confused about the main topic of your blog (if you have one). The blog title and description are a good place to cramn in some permanent site wide keywords but you may also think about sticking in a permanent ‘about us’ style paragraph to the top of you homepage again like you see on Vanilla. This way everytime the search engines come back they’ll recognise the text and know the blog is still about the same thing.
